Mass Spectrometry & Structural Analysis

Mass spectrometric analysis determines the molecular mass of a peptide or related molecule and, through fragmentation, investigates its structure, sequence-related features and selected chemical modifications. Mass confirmation establishes that the observed mass is consistent with an expected composition; it is not, by itself, complete sequence confirmation.

  • Tandem mass spectrometry and ion-trap fragmentation for structural investigation
  • Matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization, where configured
  • Mass-resolved impurity investigation coupled to chromatographic separation

Applicable sample categories

  • Peptides and small proteins
  • Modified, conjugated or cyclic peptides
  • Impurity fractions and degradation products
  • Reference and comparator materials

Measurable parameters

  • Observed molecular mass and charge-state distribution
  • Fragmentation patterns and assigned fragment ions
  • Mass differences attributable to selected modifications
  • Mass-resolved impurity information

Reporting outputs

  • Mass spectra with annotated assignments
  • Fragmentation analysis and sequence-oriented findings
  • Structural observations stated to the extent the data supports them
  • Impurity mass information

Fees for this service

Fees are per sample in pounds sterling, excluding VAT, and apply to the methods and scope described on the corresponding service page. Where no fee is listed, the investigation is scoped and quoted after a pre-submission enquiry. Multi-sample series and recurring programmes are priced on request.

Enquiry route

Describe the sample and the question.

A pre-submission enquiry establishes analytical suitability, experimental requirements, sample handling and reporting expectations before any material is sent.
